Meme Express: Heart
In the United States, December 2nd is “Have a Heart Day.” This altruistic holiday celebrates the first artificial human heart transplant, which occurred on December 2, 1982. Salt Lake City cardiologist William DeVries and his surgical team implanted the device into the chest of Barney Clark, a 61-year-old dentist from Seattle (pictured above). With his new heart, Barney Clark lived for 3 ½ months.
Today, the Meme Express prompt is simple: “have a heart.” Here are a few optional questions, to get you started.
Do you know anyone who has ever had a heart transplant?
Have you signed your driver’s license as an organ donor?Yes. I went to school with a girl who had one.
How is the heart a metaphor for life or love?Yes, of course! What am I gonna do with the organs when I'm dead? LOL It's better that another life can be saved, rather than let my body fade to dust. :)
This reminds me of a time when I was in the DL station, getting my license renewed. There was a young man there, probably his first DL...he looked about 16. They asked him if he wanted to be a donor..and after he asked what that meant (good job to his mom for educating him...*rolls eyes*), he said "Eww, no. I don't want my parts in anyone else. They are my body parts! I don't think you should even ask people that. No way."
OMG. I was stunned and appalled! I waited for the mother to educate him (I should have taken my cue from the fact that she didn't even teach him what a donor was...) and this was her response:
"Oh yeah, it is kinda gross. Just tell them no. You don't have to do anything you don't want to do."
Now I was not only stunned and appalled, but thoroughly disgusted and angered. No, that body isn't yours...in fact, it's NEVER yours...it's GOD'S TEMPLE. But, besides that....YOU'RE DEAD. What the heck are you gonna do with your 'body parts' when you're dead?!?! Are you kidding me?
Basically, I witnessed a member of the future of the human race say "I don't care about anyone else's life...I only care about myself." And he was supported by a member of an older generation. :(
This world is falling faster and faster toward fiery destruction.
What does it mean to say someone has a big heart? You know, I've never really thought of life or love in that sort of metaphor. But, simply put, the blood is life and the heart is what people associate with our feelings. I really don't know why. Maybe because when we feel, it wells up in our chests? Who knows! :)
Why do we say a person is all heart? They are generous and compassionate. :)
In this holiday season, what gifts are most heartfelt?Never heard that before...but I'm guessing it would be a person who is very loving and selfless.
Do you have a happy heart? Why or why not?Company, affection, homemade gifts, a helping hand...stuff like that. It's not about material things.
Yeah, I'm a happy person. Why be unhappy? What does that accomplish? If I'm ever feeling unhappy, I go to my friends or family and say "cheer me up!" and of course they do. :D
